Welcome to Letters to Future You

Writing to your future self is a way to capture who you are right now—what you’re hoping for, worried about, and grateful for—so you can meet this version of you again later.

Before You Begin

  • Best for solo practice or 2–8 people
  • Choose when you’d like to open the letters: 3 months, 1 year, 5 years
  • Decide where you’ll store them so they don’t get lost

Flow of the Gathering

1. Set the Frame (10–15 minutes)

  • Take a moment to notice where you are in life right now: big changes, small routines
  • Write the “open on” date on each envelope

2. Write the Letters (30–45 minutes)

  • Use prompts like:
    • “Here’s what life looks like for me right now…”
    • “Here’s what I hope for you…”
    • “Here are a few things I don’t want you to forget.”
  • Let yourself be honest and imperfect—these letters are only for you

3. Seal and Store (10 minutes)

  • Seal each letter and decorate the envelopes if you’d like
  • Choose a safe place to store them or give them to a trusted friend to keep

Variations & Ideas

  • Milestone letters: Write letters to open on specific dates (birthdays, anniversaries).
  • Group ritual: Friends write letters together and store them in a shared box.
  • Yearly tradition: Repeat every year and build an archive of your own life.
