Welcome to Letters to Future You
Writing to your future self is a way to capture who you are right now—what you’re hoping for, worried about, and grateful for—so you can meet this version of you again later.
Before You Begin
- Best for solo practice or 2–8 people
- Choose when you’d like to open the letters: 3 months, 1 year, 5 years
- Decide where you’ll store them so they don’t get lost
Flow of the Gathering
1. Set the Frame (10–15 minutes)
- Take a moment to notice where you are in life right now: big changes, small routines
- Write the “open on” date on each envelope
2. Write the Letters (30–45 minutes)
- Use prompts like:
- “Here’s what life looks like for me right now…”
- “Here’s what I hope for you…”
- “Here are a few things I don’t want you to forget.”
- Let yourself be honest and imperfect—these letters are only for you
3. Seal and Store (10 minutes)
- Seal each letter and decorate the envelopes if you’d like
- Choose a safe place to store them or give them to a trusted friend to keep
Variations & Ideas
- Milestone letters: Write letters to open on specific dates (birthdays, anniversaries).
- Group ritual: Friends write letters together and store them in a shared box.
- Yearly tradition: Repeat every year and build an archive of your own life.
